Blah on London 2012

Posted: July 31, 2012 in Olympics

I don’t know if it’s just me but the Games of the 30th Olympiad just don’t make me want to watch. Nothing is compelling me to watch like Beijing did back in 2008. There’s no Redeem Team back to erase a previous bad Olympic performance from Team USA. Team USA is the overwhelming favorite with only 2 or 3 teams with a realistic shot of beating them.  No Michael Phelps attempting to make Olympic history. He’s been upstaged by two other American swimmers, one of them Ryan Lochte. No new Olympic host site. This is London’s third go round.  There’s no Usain Bolt to come out of nowhere and capture the world’s attention, he’s a known name now. There’s no buzz about these games.  It almost feels like this represents the swan song for Europe as a region of importance on the world stage.

I think part of my apathy stems from the fact that the Games are on tape delay (so they can get the most from the advertisers) but I live in a hyper informed world. I can know the results of a race via Twitter as it is happening.  So waiting to watch it hours later makes no sense.  I hope I can snap out it or I may miss some dramatic moments of these Games.
